A couple of weeks after I bought the car I noticed the fuel gauge was faulty. I contacted Ben and we agreed I would drop the car back with them for repair and drive back later that day. Unfortunately the repair turned out to be more complicated than anticipated and wasn’t possible on the day, necessitating me leaving the car and getting a train home. Two days later Richard delivered the repaired car back to me on a trailer (a 3 hour round trip).In addition to fixing the problem they had also taken the trouble to clean and paint the brake callipers and discs as when they were working on the car they noticed they ‘looked a bit rusty’. I had a fantastic experience with Sam Smith’s. I was after a specific type of MX-5 and after coming across it on the website I rang up and got through to Ben, who gave me a bit more information and I put a reserve down for the car. Following this, Ben kept really good communication through emails and I booked a 3 and half hour train journey to test drive and hopefully buy the MX-5 (which I did). Ben picked me up from the train station and within a couple of hours I’d test driven the car and started my journey back up North. Although the pictures online made the car look mint I expected the odd put-off but I was made up how good the condition of the car was for a 6 year old example. I’d highly recommend Sam Smith and Ben was a huge help, in which was all a really seamless process. If I was to ever go to sell my MX-5 I’m sure I’ll drive it down to these guys. Picked up a lovely low mileage MX5 from this dealer. Ben who assisted me was friendly, knowledgeable and absolutely no-pressure which was really appreciated. The place was spotless and well-organised and gave off the air of people who are properly committed to their industry. Encountered a very minor issue after a couple of months with the car (a slightly seized brake caliper, apparently very common with MX5s especially during bad winter weather as we’ve recently been seeing) – I gave them a call and they were happy to take a look no questions asked and got it sorted same day at no additional cost. My last experience with a used car dealer was absolutely terrible so I was a bit hesitant to get involved with the industry again, however I’m glad I took the plunge again as this place proves that there are people who do it properly.

Quick response from first enquiry regarding a lovely MX5. I’d been looking for this particular model and fortunately saw this as soon as it came on. Good photos and description and from that I reserved the car. It was mot’d the following morning and later that day I travelled a couple of hours to collect it. We recently purchased a second hand Fiat 500 1.2 from Sam Smith Motor Retail Ltd and are absolutely delighted with this car. We had not had a Fiat 500 before and Sam went out of his way answering all of our questions, giving us a good test drive, and above all did not pressurise us with our decision to buy. It was obvious Sam only sells high calibre well looked after second hand cars, and we particularly like the fact that we will be able to have the car serviced and MOT’d here and that the car has a three month warranty with the option to extend this if we wish.

I recently had the pleasure of buying a car from Sam. I found what I was looking for on Auto Trader and contacted Sam by email. Despite being on holiday in Mexico he responded very quickly and even gave me an initial part exchange offer for my car. We arranged to go and see the TT Convertible on the weekend after he got back and it was totally as advertised. The test drive was great and when he then drove my part exchange he offered me £500 more than when he had not seen it. So the deal was done. We went away very happy having not been pressured in the slightest. The car was then serviced, valeted and had a new MOT. We picked it up the following weekend and are loving it. The whole experience was painless and I would definitely recommend Sam.

Once again Sam has sold us a brilliant car! I chose Sam again as I bought my car off him 6 months ago and I was that impressed of the service I gave him a call to see what cars he had available when it came to getting my missus first car. He’d just had a car come in that was exactly what she wanted so he got it ready for us to view just a few days later! Excellent service, excellent cars, fantastic prices!
